To really make the most of the long days and balmy evenings, here is our selection of activities and events enabling you to get straight to the heart of summer in Geneva!

An absolute must in summer: the deckchair

Available in the parks throughout the summer

They are the summer accessory par excellence! They can generally be found on the lawns in several parks around Geneva thanks to the deckchairs plan which makes them available to the public free of charge.

Transat sonore | every weekend until 24 August

Less well known but also very enjoyable is the transat sonore. Every weekend in the MEG gardens, you can settle down comfortably into a deckchair to discover a selection from the international pop music archives.

Ciné transat | from 11 July to 18 August

And to take advantage of balmy summer evenings, what could be better than Ciné transat, offering you the chance to enjoy a screening at the open-air cinema in the magnificent setting of the Perle du Lac park.

To savour summer to the full

Open-air installations | throughout the summer

The numerous ice-cream sellers around the bay, the summer refreshments stands in the parks and the various food-trucks will undoubtedly satisfy your desire for a little snack or something bigger. You can also use the grills provided by the City in several parks and enjoy a barbecue while respecting nature.

Street Food Festival | 27 to 30 June and 29 August to 1 September

Fans of street food or anyone keen to discover it can pull up a seat at a gourmet table during the Geneva Street Food Festival.

Festi’terroir | 24 and 25 August 2019

Take the opportunity to taste or buy craft beers, wines and other high-quality local products in the Parc des Bastions with Festi’terroir, a large-scale festival devoted to direct selling and organic produce.

To plunge straight into the heart of summer

Bathing sites

With swimming pools, paddling pools, Lake Geneva and the rivers, there are more than enough opportunities to take a dip! A major new addition this year, the attractive sandy beach in les Eaux-Vives will welcome swimmers and sunbathers from 22 June to 29 September! Traversée du lac | 28 July

On 28 July, the more athletic among you can give the traversée du lac a try, a 1.6 km open-water course between Genève Plage and les Bains des Pâquis. The perfect way to keep cool while admiring the bay!

Sports and water-based activities

Pedalos with a slide at the back or paddle surfing offer you the chance to enjoy the waters of Lake Geneva while keeping cool. For bigger thrills, head for the River Arve for rafting or canoeing activities, a fun and original way of exploring the city.

To make the most of elite sports

Fan zone for the FIFA Women’s Football World Cup | 2, 3, 6 and 7 July

Who will be the next football world champions? Between the Americans who are current holders and the other nations who have yet to have their final say, the atmosphere will be buzzing on the Rotonde du Quai du Mont-Blanc with the final stages of the competition shown live on the big screen.

Lyon – Liverpool | 31 July

In the men’s game, there will also be numerous stars on show at the Stade de Genève with a top-notch friendly match between the recent Champions League winners, Liverpool, and French club Olympique Lyonnais being played on 31 July at 7 p.m.

Swiss Open Starling Open Geneva | 16 to 20 July

On the occasion of this international wheelchair tennis tournament, held from 16 to 20 July, the Bois-des-Frères Sports Centre welcomes 80 athletes, including eight of the top ten players in the world.

To focus your energy, between yoga and meditation

Do you want to relax and recharge your batteries this summer? There are plenty of open air yoga and meditation classes, either free or by donation, whether it is in Bronzette, as part of the été à Beaulieu event or yoga on the grass in the Parc La Grange.

Five festivals not to be missed

Legendary, eclectic concerts, either at dawn or dusk: music lovers will be over the moon this summer in Geneva with five music festivals not to be missed for any reason!

Monday means tango | until 3 September

Destination Argentina, with the association Openmilonga! If the weather stays fine, we can enjoy an aperitif and dance the tango at the Barje des sciences, every Monday from 6.30 p.m.

Music going with the flow | until 23 September

The summer will be hot and full of surprises in the idyllic setting of A la Pointe! Concerts and DJs will bring the evenings to life from 5 p.m. Throughout the day, the public will be able to make use of a listening station to discover the International pop music archives (AIMP) of the MEG.

To be star-struck

The night of the stars in the Parc Bertrand | 3 August

Ready for lift-off? Travel though space thanks to a cinema-concert in the Parc Bertrand, from 9.30 p.m. At 10.30 p.m., it’s time to watch the sky: a telescope will be made available to the public, accompanied by an expert who will be more than happy to answer your questions.

Grand firework display | 10 August

Admire the night sky as it is lit with a thousand colours during the traditional firework display over the bay. The magical show begins at 10 p.m. and lasts for 45 minutes.

To celebrate

Neighbourhood party in les Franchises | 30 June

To inaugurate the activities of the Salon d’été in the Parc des Franchises, circle 30 June in your diary: brunch, dancing, music, beach-volleyball and an introduction to gardening await you from 11.30 a.m. onwards at the refreshments stand in the Parc des Franchises.

Geneva Pride 2019 | 29 June to 7 July

Be carried away on a rainbow wave rippling out from Lake Geneva during the Geneva Pride! In addition to the Pride Parade on 6 July, a number of festive evenings, exhibitions, performances, screenings and conferences will celebrate the diversity of gender identities and sexual orientations.

Fête nationale | 1 August

Events for children, family activities, short films, concerts and a comedy show will be organised from 5 p.m. on 1 August in the Parc La Grange. A bonfire, the traditional lantern procession and an official section will complete the varied, federating programme dedicated to famous children of Geneva who have left their mark on the history of Switzerland.

To spend summer in shorts

Open-air games

Young children will find plenty to keep them busy outdoors this summer in Geneva: in addition to the play areas and paddling pools in the four corners of the city, children will also have the opportunity to discover numerous games provided free of charge by the two itinerant games buses which will be visiting the parks and yards until September.

The Mobithèque in the parks | 2 to 13 July – 16 to 27 July

With the fine weather, the municipal libraries invite families to visit their equipped and connected mobithèque free of charge in the parks of La Grange and l'Ariana. Take advantage of the walks in the country, shows and creative workshops on offer!

Summer sports schools

The summer sports schools offer children aged 4 -18 the chance to discover more than 50 original disciplines while having fun in a relaxed atmosphere during the summer holidays.

Activity courses for children | August 

Among the wide range of activity courses for children this summer, don’t miss GE découvre en été, combining exhibition visits and improvisation theatre. The Espace Colibri at the MEG is ideal for children aged 4-10, with a programme focusing on tales combining adventures, yoga, creative workshops and visits.

To work up a sweat

Sport and DJs at Wils’ô | 20 and 27 July, 10 and 17 August

If you want to do sport to music, then head for the Wils’ô refreshment stand, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.: in addition to a number of DJs’ sets, the summer programme also includes an introduction to skateboarding as well as football and basketball tournaments!

Installations for training in the open air

To take full advantage of the sun while doing some exercise, why not make use of one of the numerous sports infrastructures or installations provided by the City, such as urban training, proxitraining, urban fitness machines and fitness trails.

An eight-hole golf course around the bay | 1 July to 25 August

Take a break by the lake with a free round of urban golf: a course approximately 4 km long offers you the chance to combine physical activity and relaxation – a fun way to rediscover the most attractive sites around the bay.

Triathlon | 13 and 14 July

On 13 and 14 July, the Tour Genève Triathlon provides elite and amateur triathletes as well as beginners 7 race formats in the idyllic setting of Geneva harbour.

To travel while staying in the shade

Explore 300,000 years of human diversity in Africa, visit the fantastic world of tales, discover the secrets of the plant world or quake in your shoes as you come face to face with great predators: travel to the four corners of the globe or to unsuspected worlds while keeping cool within the walls of the city’s cultural institutions!
